TOWN GARDENING COMPETITION

The Town Gardening Competition is taking a break to enable Skipton in Bloom to re-structure the categories and launch the competition in a new format.

Results of our 2017 Town Gardening Competition were announced at the Awards Ceremony held at Starbucks on Thursday 7 September.

Thanks were given to our category sponsors for their continued support of the competition - JACS of Skipton, Skipton Chamber of Trade, Skipton Hire Centre, Twin Locks Garden Centre and Yorkshire Housing - and a big thankyou also went to the Skipton BID team, the main supporter of Skipton in Bloom projects.

Katie, Cassie and the team at Starbucks were also thanked for generously hosting the event.

New awards for this year were the discretionary spot prizes being awarded in 3 categories - for Business or Statutory Body Displays, Broughton Road Allotments and Middletown Allotments.  Judges had looked for outstanding displays in these categories and also made a point of visiting entries from the previous year's competition.

Judges' comments on Best in Category -
"Children conducted the visit to the garden, filled with knowledge and enthusiasm.  The garden provides a real learning opportunity - involving children and some parents - hatching butterflies, grinding school-grown wheat, growing a whole variety of fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers - all woven into the curriculum.  A great garden."
