about us

2005 marked Skipton's return to the Yorkshire in Bloom competition and since then the initiative has gone from strength to strength.  For four consecutive years, Skipton has gained a Silver Award (Town Category) in recognition of all the hard work by local volunteers and sponsors who are committed to helping Skipton to bloom.  Our continuing vision is to:

  • Make Skipton more attractive for all who visit, live and work in the town
  • Encourage people to be more actively involved in the aesthetic values of the town
  • Encourage local pride
  • Stimulate horticultural interest by working with enthusiastic individuals, schools and other groups
  • Act as an umbrella organisation for local horticultural and environmental groups
  • Enhance the reputation of Skipton as a tourist destination
  • Create a more sustainable and environmentally friendly townscape

The annual Yorkshire in Bloom judging takes place in March/April and June/July of each year.  Skipton in Bloom also run the Skipton Gardening Competition where residents, allotment holders and businesses can show off their amazing efforts and hopefully win prizes.

Skipton in Bloom hold regular meetings which are informal and friendly and open to anyone with an interest in improving the local environment.  Many supporters are happy to receive meeting notes so they can keep up to date with activities or offer advice, others like to be much more involved and are happy to get their hands dirty!
